Philodendron squamiferum is sometime known as the Red Bristle Philodendron due to the red, bristle-like hairs that grow on their elongated petioles (leaf stem). They are native to South America, in particular Brazil, Columbia and Peru.
A very interesting and unusual looking climbing Philodendron with big lobed leaves that are very easy to grow.
Wait until the top 2-3cm centimetres of soil in the pot has dried out before watering heavily. Water less in in the cooler month to replicate the tropical dry season.
Bright indirect light and a humid position is great for these guys. They do best if provided with lots of light so don't hide them away in a dark hallway.
They will arrive at about 20cm tall x 40cm wide tall but will eventually climb over a metre tall and produce leaves that may reach 45cm long at which point they look insanely cool!
