Originating in the tropical Americas (Central, South and parts of the Carribean), these plants have been hailed by many collectors as the ultimate houseplant! They have beautiful velvety, heart-shaped leaves that can appear deep green or reddish purple depending on the light. New leaves often emerge a salmon pink. They have a vining habit that, along with their stunning foliage makes them an amazing addition to any room.
Fun fact about these beauties, when allowed to climb up a tree (as they do in the wild) the leaves become much larger, change shape and lose their velvety texture making them uncrecognisable from the juvenile plant. Luckily when grown in pots without the support of a tree they won't undergo morphogenesis.
Wait until the top 2-3cm centimetres of soil in the pot has dried out before watering heavily. Water a little bit less in in the cooler month to replicate the tropical dry season.
Bright indirect light and a humid position is great for these beauties. Best to keep them inside throughout the winter months.
Stems are currently between 30 and 60cm long with leaves ranging from 5 to 10cm accross. Plants will produce stems over a meter long.
