Cider Gum (Eucalyptus gunnii)
This product is sold out
The Cider Gum, Eucalyptus gunnii is a beautiful medium sized Eucalypt from Tassie. These tough as hell little guys have a charming rounded, silver-blue, aromatic foliage as a juvenile. This changes to a blue-green and lance shaped foliage as it matures.
They produce many small clusters of white fluffy flowers throughout the summer months.
Water it as you would most indoor plants, that is when the top 2-3 cm of soil in the pot dries out. The period between watering should increase through the colder months as it will take longer for the top few cm of soil to dry. If in doubt hold back on the watering as they are very tolerant of drought conditions, like most Aussie natives, but what it won't handle too well is soggy soil.
To grow well indoors these dudes require bright light so place them within range of a north facing window. Alternatively, position them close to a south facing window to allow them sun throughout the day.
They are currently approximately 25cm tall however they are a medium sized woodland tree in the wild. As such, they will eventually require a place outdoors unless you are happy to chop a hole in your roof! They will perform well as a balcony plant and can be kept on the smaller side if limited by a pot. If you have the space they also could eventually make an excellent feature tree in the back yard.
