Arguably more palm like than it's cousin Pachypodium lamerei this guy is found growing in sandy soils near the sea or in open forest in the Southwest of Madagascar.

These super easy to care for spiky succulents are very similar to P. lamerei but are usually only have a single unbranched trunk and la crown of leaves that are thinner and more grey than P. lamerei with a prominent midrib of dark reddish brown. When they mature they will produce clusters of beautifully fragrant Frangipani-like flowers through the summer.

Caring for your Pachypodium geayi (the other Madagascar Palm)

    Position

Loves bright light so near a westerly or south facing window or balcony is great. As they will handle full sun and they will eventually grow into a small tree they make an excellent feature plant in a xerophytic garden or on a balcony.

    Managing Growth

These guys are currently about 10cm tall but over time will grow into a beautifully sculptural small tree with a bulbous pachycaudal (water holding) stem.

    Watering

Through the warmer months (whilst it has leaves) water as you would most indoor plants - when the top 2-3cm of soil in the pot dries out. As it is generally more cold tolerant than P. lamerei it may not drop its leaves through winter depending on where you live. If it retains its leaves through winter continue to water but allow the soil to dry out more between waterings. If it does drop it's leaves only water once every 1-2 months very lightly to stop the soil from becoming hydrophobic. Once new leaves start to form as the weather warms resume normal watering.

    Our special eco packaging

    No Plant Stress

Our plant packaging is designed by people know how to keep plants fresh and healthy in transit. Your plants will enjoy a comfortable trip directly from our greenhouse to your door in just a few of days. Your plant will not have to deal with the stress of being bare rooted for transport (how most plants are sent) and you won’t have to deal with the mess and fuss of potting up your new plant when you receive it.

    Stability Support

The plastic pot will be wrapped in a calico bag to keep the soil in place, it will then be tied into a specially designed cardboard insert which will keep it stable and upright throughout its journey. The insert will be glued in place on top of your cardboard wrapped ceramic pot to hold it down and your plant up!

    No Re-Potting

Your plant will come in its plastic pot which we make sure fits perfectly in whichever ceramic pot you choose. Our packaging has been designed to allow us to send your beautiful ceramic pot along with your plant, fully potted, yep in soil, together in the same box.

    Fully Recyclable

The thing that we’re most proud of is that our packaging is fully recyclable and re-useable so you don’t have to feel bad about generating more packaging waste. In fact you should feel awesome because ordering from us, online, will generate way less emissions than if you were to drive to the nursery to buy a plant. The only plastic you get will be the plastic pot that your plant comes in and these can be re-used or recycled.
